Oakland Motel

The room was clean, with fairly modern updates for an older motel. There’s a kitchen area with a coffee maker, microwave, and fridge in the room, but no breakfast or coffee available at the desk since nobody seems to be there. We arrived late, maybe around 6 or 7 PM, and there was no one at the front desk. A phone number was posted, and they gave us a keypad number for the room door. They also own the hotel down the road with the diner, so I think they’re around if you need something. Luckily, I’m pretty self-sufficient and didn’t need anything. Housekeeping must come through sometime during the day, but I wasn’t at the motel then. No one was at the desk the morning we checked out either.

The little diner attached to the hotel is nice, though the parking is a bit messy. I didn’t meet the owner. As for the woman at the front desk, whose sister works there as a maid, I’ll just say she was wickedly mean and not a good person.

There were cobwebs behind the door, and the room smelled musty. The bathroom was so tiny that my walker wouldn’t fit through the doorway.

The bed was extremely comfortable, and our room was cozy, beautifully decorated, and very clean. When we first pulled in this past weekend, the motel’s appearance made me a little nervous, but we were pleasantly surprised. Like they say, don’t judge a book by its cover. I’d definitely recommend staying here if you’re in the Oakland area. You won’t be disappointed.
