Palms Motel

I’m standing right outside the office window now. I came back from the store before it closed at 2am, and I’ve misplaced my key. I’ve rung the bell several times. It’s been more than 20 minutes and nobody has answered.

The place is pretty run-down, though reception was really nice and the service was great. I booked two nights but stayed for only one, and they refunded the second night after the 11:00am checkout time.

For the price, PALM MOTEL is good enough. It’s simple, and the rooms are clean. I expected less during my week there, but ended up having a pleasant stay. The attendant, Joseph, was super nice. I was worried about safety because of the location, but I guess I was wrong. If you have the same kind of assumptions I did, don’t let them make the decision for you. I travel quite a bit and have stayed in many nice places, but at the end of the day, all you need is a bed to sleep in. One more thing: CCTV covers the whole perimeter, so if something feels weird, the motel is being recorded.

I found coffee within a five-minute walk, though there’s no coffee machine at the motel. The shower looked fine, but I didn’t try it. The bed seemed a little sus, though still a lot less sus than the BART train. It isn’t as bad as some reviews suggest. I hadn’t realized smoking was allowed, and at night it smelled like weed, which I hate. The Bay Area in general is just too weedy for me. :((((
