Having a room was better than being homeless, but there were bugs in the bed. I was there as a homeless veteran trying to get back on my feet after getting sober, and the neighborhood didn’t feel promising for people in that situation. I’m thankful I didn’t fall into temptation. They should choose their partner organizations more carefully. On my first day, a woman approached me as though we knew each other and told me her sister had died of cancer. It was awkward. In the days after that, I felt like another tenant next to my room was stalking me. I have a disability and was put on the second floor because no first-floor room was available. After about three days, they moved me to another motel, presenting the move to the first floor as though they were doing me a favor. The atmosphere toward me felt very strange. I was also “shocked” in my sleep. It felt like cardiac arrest, so maybe they should investigate that. I also think there are cameras where there shouldn’t be any. I can see how people get labeled crazy when others can’t manipulate their circumstances, like economic instability or homelessness. They could handle their partnerships better so other veterans don’t go through this. They seem to expect people won’t speak up, and that’s how this continues. It felt like they wanted to keep me unhoused and make me look mentally unstable and difficult. I know what I experienced and felt. They were very sneaky toward me.

I’m a veteran and stayed here while searching for a permanent place to live. The owners are very nice, the rooms get a thorough cleaning every day, and several bus routes are conveniently accessible from the location.

I’ve stayed here a few times and plan to keep coming back. The rooms are nice, spacious, and not too expensive, and it was convenient being close to everything I needed. I came to Oakland to visit a friend, and the staff and managers checked in to see if I was okay and had everything I needed. They made me feel included, cared for, and like family. Honestly, they’re one of the best families I’ve met, and they made the trip worthwhile. Thank you, Premier Inn & Suites!

The worst reviews seem to be older, and the owners are renovating. The man who checked me in was extraordinarily pleasant. My room was nice but still very basic, and the advertised microwave wasn’t there. The hot water ran on the colder side. The neighborhood felt a bit dicey. It was fine for one night, and I’d give it a rising three stars. Maybe in another year it’ll reach four.

I’ve been a resident at the starlight motel for eight months. The managers are nice, and the whole place has been renovated. It’s very clean now, with no roaches anymore, and every room gets cleaned every day without exception. The people who ran it before let it go to the dogs. I’m very happy to have a roof over my head, though I don’t think this is the best of all the motels I’ve stayed in. The managers are very strict about the rules. I’ve been around different motels, and none felt as much like work furlough as this one.
