La Quinta Inn & Suites # 988

The little gym and breakfast were nice. I spent one night and had no complaints. The bed was large and comfortable, and so was the bathroom. The TV had some reception trouble, but only at the very end of the day.

The beds were clean and comfortable, and the location was good. Front desk staff were good, too. But the exterior, lobby, and rooms all need a major makeover. My room smelled like it had been smoked in, and everything inside was beat up and needed restoring. LQs used to be consistently nice and well decorated. Since Wyndham acquired it, the quality has deteriorated a lot.

The maintenance man seemed more apologetic than anyone else, but staff at the desk, maintenance, and the manager all seemed unable to be bothered by our concerns. I don't understand how the hotel was allowed to get so run down. We've never stayed at a Wyndham property this bad. We spent three nights trying to make it work. We weren't told before arrival, or in the booking information, that renovation was underway. Construction and very loud traffic made it nearly impossible to rest, even with earplugs. The suites are closest to the interstate exits, entrances, and traffic, and I looked at several rooms after the first was so bad. The room was dirty and poorly maintained. The AC smelled of mold or mildew and made the suite and our clothes smell stale. The vents were dusty with caked-on buildup. There were countless unknown stains and marks on the walls, doors, windows, and other surfaces. The curtains blocked neither light nor weather nor sound. There were serious upkeep and safety problems throughout. The deadbolt wouldn't lock or engage. The TVs didn't work, though one was fixed later in the day. I requested room service at 9 a.m., but it didn't arrive until after 6 p.m. Staff seemed severely understaffed, and maintenance openly complained about a lack of housekeeping support. The tub was stained, the countertop was chipped with a large piece missing, and the hair dryer was broken until it was eventually replaced. There were roaches and ants. Furniture was old and heavily stained, cabinetry was damaged, and broken cabinetry held a dead refrigerator. They replaced it with another old fridge in the living room. The floor near the door felt flooded, possibly from water damage. Door stops were broken, and trim was cracked or broken with missing caulk in every room and crevice. Door trim was broken and doors were stained. The iron had black residue and the ironing board cover was stained. Some lamps and electronics were unplugged or didn't work. There were odd French doors in the bathroom and bedroom with worn fabric panels. The place felt unsafe, unclean, and poorly managed, with broken amenities and minimal service. I wouldn't recommend it or return.

The room was filthy, and the replacement they offered was dirty too. There were cockroaches, outlets that worked off and on, peeling paint, and hair coming from the sprinkler somehow. Parking was awful and breakfast was mediocre. I'd rather drive an hour than go back to this La Quinta after that experience. I can't stress how horrible it was or how poor the hotel's quality is.
