Coastal Inn

We’re on vacation here in Ocean City right now, and the room has been a nice surprise. It was spotless, freshly mopped, and still smelled of bleach. The furniture, linens, AC, and other appliances all seemed new. We also checked out the pool, which looked clean and well kept. The young woman at the front desk was very pleasant when she checked us in. We’d been wary because of older reviews and the outside of the property, so we weren’t expecting much. Our first-floor room has a little chair outside, and the rooms are nonsmoking. It’s a good-value, clean place within walking distance of everything. The only downside is parking costs $10 a day unless you find a street spot.

There were bugs and ants all over the room, and I got bitten in bed. The bathroom was tiny and had no soap or toiletries. The old beds creaked and were uncomfortable, and the AC was so loud we barely slept. We also weren’t told about the $100 deposit or $10 parking charge until after we’d paid for the room. When I asked the front desk clerk, a short-haired Arab man, for a discount or compensation, he laughed and wouldn’t help. He said he could only text the manager, who replied, “everything is already paid, can’t do anything.” My request for a partial refund was denied too. Our stay at Coastal Inn in Ocean City, MD was terrible. Don’t stay here unless you have no other choice. One of our worst hotel experiences.

The room was supposedly ready, but there was hair on the sheets and no towels for our family. The whole place smelled awful. The weed and urine odors in the room and at both building exits were so strong they made me feel sick. At check-in they required a $100 “deposit,” then told us to find our own parking because they were “sold out.” The pool was sandy and the water didn’t look clean. People were smoking and using weed near minors, and the office staff didn’t seem to care when we raised it. There was no ice machine or vending machine either. We can’t cancel because they won’t refund us. Nothing about the Coastal Inn in OCMD was good, and we don’t recommend it.

I was worried after reading the reviews, but the room was clean, smelled clean, and everything worked. The location is great, and we practically had the pool to ourselves the whole trip.
