Inn on the Ocean

We slept really well, and the small Canopy Room was comfortable to return to after a day at the beach. Staff were lovely and accommodating, and the downstairs beach chairs and umbrellas saved us from hauling our own down in the car. The covered porch was peaceful, with lovely sunrise views, and the place was quiet and right on the boardwalk. It was a short walk straight to the beach. The breakfast setup didn't match what the website led us to expect, though we'd read other reviews and knew it would just be grab-and-go. It would've been nice to have a part-time chef so the staff weren't trying to cover both buildings and guests could enjoy breakfast in the pretty breakfast room. Fresh creamer for the coffee would also be good; powdered creamer was all they had. We loved our stay and the whole experience.

This was our third stay, but first under the new owners. I've vacationed in OCMD all my life. The staff are still wonderful, and the Oceana room had fresh flooring, paint, and an AC unit. We also liked the lighter breakfast options. Even so, we won't return. At $549 a night for a holiday weekend, we expected a better experience, and the inn just isn't as nice anymore. The room was dusty beyond the obvious surfaces. Debris from ceiling work was left on the fan, shade tops, lamps, mirror tops, and artwork. We asked for another cleaning and even left a $20 tip. After they came back, I wiped some areas with a damp cloth and they were still dirty. The newer mattress felt very cheap, as did the small pillows on a king bed. The comforter insert had no cover, and the toiletries were very low-end. Thin shades let the boardwalk lights shine in all night. There was also loud music from the beach at 10th Street that we could hear in the room. That's not the inn's fault, but guests should know. Our AC had no power. Staff tried to fix it, but ended up using an extension cord. We also noticed electrical hazards, including overloaded outlets, that someone should look into.

Vicky's breakfast was amazing, and we loved the charming, well-kept inn and rooms. The owners were so sweet and accommodating. With a beautiful ocean view, the front porch is a lovely place to sit and watch the waves. You're right on the boardwalk. We'll absolutely be back!

This was an awful disappointment. We love bed and breakfasts and have usually had great stays, but we couldn't stay here. We booked a quick two-night getaway on 10/17/17 and were looking forward to it. Years ago we'd stayed here and found it lovely and well kept. This time, we had to find somewhere safer and cleaner at the last minute. The towel hanging as clean was filthy. The sink and toilet hadn't been cleaned, and the shower had hair, soap scum on the door, and black mold all over. I wouldn't even consider showering. The bed was made, floor looked cleaned, and new shampoo, conditioner, and soap were in the stall, so someone had clearly been in the room. The “Innkeeper” blamed the maid, but it seemed like they thought someone would accept the room just because it was O.C. I've stayed in better campground bath houses. Old glasses sat on the porch tables when we arrived and were still there when we left. There was no refrigerator in the room. The bit of kitchen we saw was cluttered with boxes. The window AC didn't seem to cool the room, and the floor sloped so much that water bottles rolled off the TV stand. There was so much dust on the cabinet that you could write in it. I don't understand how this could be acceptable for that price. We complained to the “Innkeeper” and sent several emails with pictures, explaining that we felt unsafe and uncomfortable in such a dirty room. The owners responded to just one email and refused to refund even one night, $221. I can't speak to the breakfast because we ran out of there. The location may be good, but the poor service and accommodations with such an expensive price tag made this a horrible experience.
