Parkview Motel

The price was right, and I liked being able to support a mom and pop operation. The people checking me in were really kind and courteous. My room was clean, but dated and musty, and the towels were scratchy. I did love the pillows, though. I could shape one around my head :-) Would I come back? Probably not. I'll try the super 8.

This is probably the cheapest motel in the area, so be ready for what that gets you. The room smelled old and musty, and the bathroom was outdated, with an old toilet seat and a very old, creaky window. Its tiles were cracked and loose, some outlets had no covers, and the door had no lock. Even shut, there was a gap by the frame that let you see into the bathroom. The beds were hard, like sleeping on a thin-cushioned stone, and noisy even if you barely moved. The pillows were pancake-flat, the curtains wouldn't close all the way, and the bathtub looked unclean. The TV was 15 years old, and the remote was missing its battery cover. Housekeeping never came during our stay, so we reused towels and the garbage cans filled up without being emptied.

It's a mom and pop place, a bit outdated, but there are much worse places to stay. It's easy on the wallet and good for families and pets. No bed bugs or any other bugs that I saw. The owners are good people who go out of their way to accommodate. I'll stay here whenever I'm in town.

I stayed here for RAGBRAI because there weren't any other choices in town, and I got the last room. It was dirty and a lot of things were broken. I wouldn't stay again.
