Old Village Inn

We'd been coming to the Old Village Inn for more than 15 years, and it used to be one of our favorite places in Ogunquit. Since the ownership changed a couple of years ago, though, the standards have clearly dropped. Tonight was our last visit. We sat at the bar for dinner on 5-16, where there were two bartenders, a woman and a man wearing a Scottish-style flat cap and cross necklace. He never introduced himself. He was attentive and personable with everyone else at the bar, but barely looked at us and treated us with a strangely icy coldness. We hadn't done or said anything to deserve that, and the obvious exclusion made us very uncomfortable. It's a real shame to leave a place we've loved for over a decade, but an establishment that lets an employee treat loyal, paying customers like second-class citizens doesn't deserve our business. We'll never set foot in there again.

We found a place for a last-minute trip, and it turned out to be somewhere we'd definitely return to. The room was spotless and spacious, and the innkeeper was very nice. The location is excellent, there are reserved parking spots, and a cute bar and restaurant downstairs had a steady stream of customers. There are no elevators, and all rooms start on the second floor or higher. The snow still makes parking difficult, but they're managing.

You can walk to just about anywhere in town from this newly renovated hotel, and it's close to all the amenities. The room was clean and nice, and the staff were very friendly. Lauren was especially kind and helpful, with excellent service. It's the best location in Ogunquit, and I look forward to staying here again.

The bar and restaurant are right downstairs, and you're super close to everything. We had a nice room on the second floor. Next time, we'd try for a top-floor room, one at the back, or both.
