The patio was a relaxing spot, and the bikes were a real plus. They were free to borrow, in good condition, and came with a helmet and lock. They worked well for the flat routes around Ojai. Downtown was about a 10-minute walk, and the Ojai Bike Trail is nearby, though the road itself has no bike lanes. Getting around on foot was only moderately easy: where nearby landowners haven’t built sidewalks, you sometimes have to walk in dirt beside a busy road. That may change as the area develops. The rooms were clean and nicely decorated, with a small fridge, TV, and electric kettle. But for around $500 a night, a two-night minimum, and what was provided, I expected more. There was no iron or ironing board, no included breakfast, and the sound insulation was poor. We heard every step from the upstairs neighbor. The doorless shower soaked the bathroom floor, and the sink area had no door, so privacy was limited. It’s a nice motel on its own, but not a luxury place, and the rate didn’t match the amenities. I’d wholeheartedly recommend it if you can get a reasonable price.

We loved the hotel lobby and pool area, and the place has a lovely vibe. The pool chairs could’ve been more comfortable, but they were fine. What really disrupted our stay was the noise from upstairs. We were on the ground floor and got woken at 6:30 the first morning by the neighbors walking around and moving furniture. For the next 45 minutes it sounded like elephants overhead. Both my girlfriend and I were shocked by how loud it was, whether you’re a light or heavy sleeper, and we couldn’t sleep while it was happening. A different group arrived the next day, and the same room noises were just as bad, so it seems to be an issue with the building. Maybe it’s quieter in other parts of the hotel, I don’t know, but I definitely wouldn’t pick the ground floor again. We also had a patio room, but the screen door wouldn’t close properly at the bottom. We couldn’t leave the main patio door open for fresh air because insects would get in, and there were enough of them that we didn’t want to risk it. That was a bummer. Aside from those two big issues, the rest was lovely.

I loved seeing real plants in the beautifully decorated rooms. The pool and hot tub were wonderful, and there’s a garden at the back that’s perfect for yoga or stretching. It’s very walkable and in a great spot. Since it sits a little way down the main road, it’s also quieter at night, which was nice.

The Capri Hotel in Ojai has a lovely retro look, and the staff always make me feel welcome. Arriving in Ojai already feels like stepping into another world, and the Capri really captures that atmosphere. It’s a special place, and I always leave feeling refreshed and inspired.

Our suite was gorgeous, with a balcony looking out over the pool. The room had a modern, eclectic style, and the pool and hot tub were easy to get to. The price was very reasonable, too. We could walk quickly to the restaurants and shops, but were glad to be away from the crowds. We brought far too much luggage and had to carry it upstairs, but that was our own doing. We’ll definitely be back.
