Old Orchard Beach Inn

The location and service were fine, and it had that homey, classic bed-and-breakfast feel. The beds, though, were extremely uncomfortable, so be ready for poor sleep. There was a microwave, fridge, TV, and working shower and bathroom. Breakfast was the same each morning, and since it's free, you get what you pay for. We preferred the many breakfast places nearby.

The breakfast was the best part, thanks to Miriam, who worked hard to keep the area clean and stocked. She was the only employee we met who seemed engaged and committed to her work. The location is great, and this old historic building could be lovely, but it badly needs care. Our room was barely okay, with dingy lighting and a pathetic mattress: a thin flat sheet over a foam topper, with no mattress cover. I searched the linen closet for sanitary protection and helped myself because nobody was around to ask. The landscaping and upkeep seemed neglected too, as the porch pictures show. It feels like the owners aren't on site, and this once lovely inn has fallen into disrepair with no one caring for it.

The staff were very nice, but the inn itself was not. Room doors stuck, which seems like a fire hazard, and the windows had broken glass. Some toilet parts were broken, and staff couldn't provide receipts for the amount paid. The breakfast room coffee cups were dirty, and the mattress had so many pills you could feel them through the sheets.

There was plenty for the kids to do, and it was a short walk to the ocean and shops. We stayed at the Inn, though there's also a bed and breakfast on the property, and the continental breakfast was included. The staff were courteous, and I had a really nice time. If stairs are a problem, ask for a ground floor room. My husband had trouble with them, so the general manager, Omar, moved us downstairs at no extra charge. That was wonderful. I'd love to stay again. Thanks for having us.
