Residence Inn by Marriott Ontario Airport

We picked this place because it was across the street from the convention center where my daughter had a gymnastics competition. The convenient location was the only good part. We booked two rooms, and both had problems from the start. After a long workday and the drive from Long Beach, we arrived very late and didn't discover the bathroom plumbing problems until the middle of the night. The toilets wouldn't flush, and one was loose on the floor and wobbled. The kitchen area lights didn't work. An unused kitchen towel was already stained with what looked like coffee. It had been folded up and put out as if it had been washed, but clearly hadn't. The ironing board was filthy. We were there only overnight, thankfully, but this wasn't like any Marriott we'd stayed at before. Late at night, the back parking lot had people doing shady things. Around 8:30 p.m., I went to Starbucks and came back to see people coming out of the lot near our building. They didn't look like they belonged there and were hiding behind the trash cans. I wouldn't recommend staying here until these problems are dealt with and it meets Marriott standards again.

We had to change rooms at 10 p.m. because people were having a party in the room above us. The bathroom toilet flusher needed fixing after every flush, the shower still had hair from previous guests in the drain, and the coffee machine had no pot. The bedside lamps were built into the bed frame and falling off. Neither room smelled fresh. The place felt like a motel, and there was a noticeable "I just work here" vibe at the front desk. The location is great, but the property seemed dated. We watched security chat with grown men who were letting teenage girls through the security gates, and no one tried to stop them. This went on for hours. Remember to take photos and videos of your room before and after.

The carpet was frayed and had animal urine stains, the tub was chipped, and its drain was broken. The room smelled, and trash was scattered outside. This place was dirtier than a homeless shelter. I checked out and went to a nearby competing hotel. It doesn't meet Marriott standards, and I never received a survey about my stay.

I’m on the road for work 35-40 weeks a year, and Marriott is usually my brand. This five-night stay fell well short of what I expect from it. Both rooms felt old and stuffy, and in the second one the carpet tack strips were exposed enough to tear my dress socks. In the first room, the toilet repeatedly wouldn’t clear the bowl, even with a plunger. After two days of that, I asked to move. The replacement room wasn’t ready: a very nice maintenance man was cleaning its carpets and hadn’t been told I was coming. Then its AC stopped working, so I had to ask for a reset. I also needed a desk lamp just to work at the corner desk, since two ceiling bulbs were out and it was too dark. I don’t remember getting a post-stay survey, and I can see why they might not want feedback. So many negative reviews mention the same problems. It doesn’t seem like the management or owners care about the property or its guests. Don’t stay here. It’s cheap for a reason.
