Southern Lodge & Suites

Nothing fancy, but it does the job. The recent renovation made the place feel fresher than I expected, and it was kept clean while I was there. The staff were helpful and friendly, which made the stay better.

The room itself was comfortable and clean despite the motel's age, but the way we were treated was awful. My husband, my service dog, and I checked in around 1 am. I had mentioned she was a service dog, but the clerk quoted the room rate and added a $25 pet fee. When I objected, she still charged it and told me to speak to the manager in the morning, or find another hotel. Maybe I should have. The next morning I called to ask for a late checkout, just up to an hour. They said no, absolutely not, and that we had to be out by 11 am. When I went to the desk to ask for the $25 back, the man refused to follow ADA guidelines or state and federal law. He said I didn't look like I needed a service dog and told me to leave before he called the law. If you're traveling with a service dog, choose another hotel. The Sleep ends right next door and looked much nicer.

I paid an extra $40 for an upgraded room with a garden tub and jets, but they said the tubs were being worked on. Why charge me extra for something they knew wasn't working? I didn't get what I paid for, and that feels like theft.

The room was in rough shape: no lamp or alarm clock, a broken refrigerator, and towels worn almost through. The ice machine was locked, so an attendant had to open it. In the morning we wanted ice and a receipt, but the office sign said someone would be back in 30 minutes. We went for breakfast and came back, but nobody was there. After waiting an hour and fifteen minutes while trying to leave, a cleaning person showed up and got us ice. She kindly called a manager and got instructions for our receipt. She was the only decent part of the stay. Make sure you don't confuse this Southern Lodge with the one on St. Matthews Rd. Our previous stays at that location were very nice.
