Chateau Lodge

We stayed in the cowboy room, which was cheesy in a fun way. It was very clean, smelled fine, and the location was convenient. The toilet tank leaked, but maintenance fixed it right away. There wasn’t any hand soap by the sink, so I used some I’d brought from another hotel. The WiFi was unreliable. Still, it’s been a fun stay so far.

I needed an extra night while renovating a rental, so I called to arrange it. Since my first night was booked online, they asked me to come by with my credit card to pay. I was working across the street at the rental, and they kindly told me to take my time and stop in whenever I could. I appreciated that. I’m in the gaming room, which is a smoking room. It’s clean and adorably decorated, though the air conditioner is noisy and the TV is more like a tiny computer monitor. It’s a quiet, pleasant spot with a calming view, just what I’d expect from a small family-run motel in a beautiful little town.

The owners were very nice, and the place could have potential with a little effort and a few small upgrades. I was traveling on a whim and needed somewhere to stay, so it served its purpose, but I stayed four days and no one ever offered fresh towels or did anything with the room. It smelled bad and wasn’t clean. I had to fight through huge spider webs just to open the front door, and there was dust and dead bugs around. The shower and bath were nearly unusable, and I never felt clean. The towels and sheets were stained, and the mattress was awful, with springs stabbing me all night, every night.

If a basic motel is what you’re after, this is a solid choice. I stayed recently and had a pleasant visit. The room was clean, with a microwave and fridge, which was all I needed. It’s also well located for several state parks and outdoor activities.
