La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham Orlando I Drive/Conv Ctr

The staff were very nice, helpful, and accommodating. Our room was fairly clean, the TV worked well with good channel choices, and one of the two beds was quite comfortable. The other mattress sagged in the middle. Breakfast was complimentary but meager and poor quality. I was there five days for work, and much of the hotel seemed run down or broken. Lobby furniture had big holes, one elevator was out of service with an old-looking sign, and the elevator still running was slow, with a damaged door that struggled to open and close fully. The ice machines didn't work on some floors, so I had to look around for one that did. The hot tub we hoped to use was also out of order and looked as if it had been that way for a while.

The staff were very nice, but this property needs urgent attention. The room and public areas smelled musty, with rust in the bathtub, peeling paint, and grime on the walls and doors. The exterior looked neglected too, with something dripping from many windows and air-conditioning units. The pool seemed abandoned, cold, and overdue for cleaning; the empty hot tub was full of leaves. Even the poolside clock was still on daylight savings time, which had ended about three months earlier. Breakfast was nearly gone 20 minutes before closing, and what remained wasn't much of a selection. After using the small supply of toilet paper, I had to go downstairs for more. The elevator was badly scuffed, painfully slow, and had something dripping inside. It felt frightening to ride, and the door gap by the lock was about a quarter inch, as if it could be bypassed. #Wyndham should be ashamed to have this property under its umbrella.

The location is good, but I won't stay here again. There were roaches all over the walls, especially through the evening, and I left earlier than planned just to get out. I stayed for two nights and arrived very late the first one. The TV in my first room didn't work. I called the desk for over a minute with no answer, then went downstairs and found the clerk playing games on his phone. He only moved me to another room after it became clear I wanted the TV fixed. The front elevator had already been out for over five days, with no repair date, and he wouldn't put me on a lower floor. The third-floor hallway smelled like someone had used it as a restroom. I killed two roaches on the wall while sending an email. I checked the bed for bugs and didn't see any, so I slept. Breakfast had only cold, hard-boiled eggs for protein, plus make-your-own waffles with few toppings, limited cereal, white bread, muffins, and some apples and oranges. I was out before 7 a.m. and didn't return until 9:30 p.m.

I booked two rooms. One was just there, neither good nor terrible. The other smelled and had residue that made me think it had been used to cook drugs. When I told the desk, they brushed it off. Since I booked online, they treated changing rooms as my problem. Apparently once they had my money, I was on my own. The elevator situation was also alarming. There was one working elevator for the whole hotel, at the far end of the hall, and it was incredibly slow. It looked like the Hollywood Tower of Terror and once dropped about two feet. When I reported that, the desk said it happens and I could take the stairs. Google called this a 4-star hotel. I didn't realize that meant 4 out of 10, and even that feels generous. Safety concerns were shrugged off, the rooms seemed to have mysterious past lives, and basic infrastructure felt optional. I wouldn't stay again, recommend it, or hesitate to warn people.
