We arrived for the three-person reservation we had paid for and couldn't get into the house. The host said we'd canceled, which wasn't true. I explained that we still needed the place and asked for a new access code, but got no reply. We were left out of town with nowhere to stay at the last minute on a wedding weekend. Airbnb did refund us, but that didn't undo the stress, disruption, or lack of professionalism. This host shouldn't be in hospitality. This began when I told the host that my brother and his wife might join us for a family wedding. We'd booked an Airbnb home for three adults, and it had an extra bedroom. The host tried to nearly double the reservation price because two more adults would use that room, even though it was already paid for. I turned down the increase and said they would stay elsewhere.

We had a lovely stay at the Curwood House and wished we could have stayed longer. The room was clean, attractive, and comfortable, and the price felt reasonable. We knew when booking that the bathroom was shared with other guests, so that wasn't a big issue for us. The house was also quite close to downtown and the castle. At first, communicating by text or voicemail, as the host preferred, took some getting used to. Once we figured it out, we could ask questions and request an invoice by text.
The house itself was beautiful, but we didn't get the two-bedroom apartment I paid for. For our family wedding on 10/21/23, we arrived to find the door open to the elements and the lights off. We were put in a one-bedroom with a sofa, and our room door had no lock. I texted that evening and called the next morning, but no one responded. A few days later, I got an email saying the host had double booked and given us other accommodations. This wasn't what I paid for, and getting no response was unacceptable.
Apt E was a great place to get some time to myself. I stayed for two nights, relaxed by the fireplace, had takeout, watched Netflix, and read. The master bedroom was so comfortable, and I honestly didn't want to go home. The apartment was lovely, with exposed brick that gave it character, and it was surprisingly quiet despite being near M-52. I'd happily stay again on my next family visit. The host was wonderful to communicate with. My tip is to book through Airbnb to avoid issues with other “discount” booking apps.
We were all impressed with The Curwood House, including those of us who had never been there before. It made a charming, historic setting for our company Christmas party and overnight stay, with clean, comfortable, well-furnished bedrooms. The price was very reasonable, and check-in and check-out were simple. We had to change venues at the last minute, and Michelle was pleasant and easy to work with throughout. On short notice, she rearranged furniture, let us tour the property within an hour of calling, and helped us plan the best layout for our caterer, bartenders, and musician. She made sure we had what we needed and never complained. We'll recommend The Curwood House to anyone looking for an event space or a place to stay.
