Super 8 by Wyndham Oxford (Mississippi)

We got a hot shower, and things did quiet down around 10:30. That was about all I could feel good about. We were in town for Homecoming, so choices were limited, and the Wyndham name made me think the place would be okay. As soon as we opened the door, the room smelled moldy, and the bedding smelled too. There were burn marks, like people had been smoking in the rooms. No charging ports, one bedside light was dead, and both the hair dryer and microwave were filthy and didn't work. The towels were so worn they had holes. The walls were thin enough that we heard other guests talking and moving around, including some who seemed to live there long term. Breakfast was a few pieces of bread and four yogurts. The TV remote fell behind the headboard, and there was no way we were going to retrieve it. I took three showers in 48 hours just to try to feel clean. Never again.

During the Ole Miss vs. LSU game, this was the only hotel available, and like every hotel in Oxford, they had raised their prices. Still, this was the worst $1,000+ I've ever spent, and I honestly think the place should be shut down immediately. I couldn't sleep well because I was worried about getting sick, bed bugs, and someone breaking in. The parking lot had creepers, although the AC did work :). The room smelled strongly of smoke and hadn't been swept. The beds were made, but when I flipped the comforter there was hair and dirt in the sheets, so they seemed to have just remade the beds without cleaning them. The sink barely worked, and the fridge didn't work either, with food and drinks left by previous guests inside. There were four people on our reservation but only two towels, and the shower curtain had mold on it.

The rooms aren't great, but they were livable. What I can't get past is feeling unsafe, since guest safety should be the number one priority. After we needed another key card to get in, a different employee handed one over without asking for ID. We told her she should be checking IDs. Earlier, despite having a reservation, we were given a key to someone else's room. We walked in and saw clothes, food, and other belongings, then went back down to report it. The employee giggled, apologized, and said she'd forgotten to note their stay. She then gave us the suite, the only room available; the double-bed room wasn't ready, though she offered to clean it herself. The suite was okay, but very dusty and missing light bulbs. We knew it was a cheap find, but those safety issues make it hard to recommend.

The man at the desk was fabulous when I checked in at 1:45 a.m. after traveling all night. The room, though, was absolutely disgusting, as the photos show. I got approval for a noon late checkout, but at 9:45 housekeeping opened my door and tried to come in without knocking, before regular checkout time. The website and sign advertised free breakfast, but when I went down around 9:30, there was almost nothing: two slices of white bread and about a third of an old gallon of milk. The front desk said they were out of everything. There was mold all over the shower. I'm very disappointed and not sure whether I'll get compensation, but I'll call corporate to report these problems.
