Vagabond Inn Oxnard

For a budget inn, the stay was about what I expected. Staff and service were fine, and the room had modern styling with new-looking laminate floors, though it was very small. A half-empty beer bottle in the fridge when we checked in made me wonder how thoroughly the room had been cleaned, but everything else seemed clean. The advertised free breakfast was just wrapped snacks and a small selection of whole fruit.

For a two-star hotel, it was okay. The bed was decent, the shower wasn’t bad, and the fridge and AC worked. I also liked the side table lights. Breakfast was pretty poor, though. One banana had been left so long it had turned to liquid, and it was still there late the next morning even though we’d mentioned it the previous afternoon.

Noise carries badly through the hotel, as someone else has mentioned. My bigger issues were the cleanliness and the customer service. The sheets had small red stains in the middle of the bed, and the room smelled of smoke. They moved me to a different type of room because there were no more of the original kind, and I had to pay extra. When I explained to the manager why I wanted to move, he said he understood if I wanted to cancel my reservation, basically leaving me with take it or leave it. The other room was described as a “nicee room with a jacuzzi,” but two pillowcases were stained too, so I tossed them on the couch. I only stayed because it was past 11 PM, I’d driven several hours, and the strawberry festival seemed to have hotels in high demand.

The updated rooms looked really nice, and the big, fluffy beds were so comfortable. I had an issue, but manager Anthony fixed it for me. I was happy with the stay overall and will come back, like always.
