Best Western Plus At Lake Powell

We stayed two nights at the sold-out Best Western, paying a premium for an experience that felt like a motel. The room wasn't cleaned: there was dust, hair, and mud on the floor, the small shabby blankets were in poor shape, and the pillows had no life left. The phone didn't work, so we had to go to the desk with every question or request. The desk often had just one person handling too much, and there was hardly any room service effort to check whether we needed towels or toiletries. Twice, housekeeping came in after we'd clearly said we didn't want service. Breakfast was another mess. Even though management knew the hotel was full, they ran out of basic things like fruit, bagels, cream cheese, yogurt, pancakes or waffles, tea bags, cupcakes or muffins, and hot oats. The butter was frozen solid. At 7:05, just 35 minutes after breakfast opened at 6:30, servers were already saying they were sorry, they were out of most things and had too many guests. The poor service, messy rooms, and broken phone made the whole stay far below par. I hope management reads this and fixes things so future guests get a better stay for their money. We lost a lot on ours.

We didn't use the pool because of the weather, though other guests seemed to be enjoying it. Parking was plentiful, including underground spaces, and the neighborhood felt safe for walking. The front desk staff were welcoming and helpful, and the complimentary hot American breakfast was a nice touch. We stayed two nights and found the location especially convenient: tour operators for Antelope Canyon are within walking distance, and a nearby market plaza has a Safeway with hot food, souvenirs, water, and groceries. Upper and Lower Antelope Canyon, Horseshoe Bend, and Lake Powell/Dam are all close. Rates are high, but the convenience made them feel worthwhile. We noticed several buses bringing groups each evening. It's also a good base for day trips to Zion National Park, Grand Canyon, and Monument Valley, all of which I recommend.

The strong smell of fried potatoes was unbearable as soon as I entered my room, so I asked to switch. The front desk said there were no other rooms the same size, only smaller ones. After I asked several more times, they called the manager and moved me. The replacement room was nearly empty, with very little furniture. Between that and the pungent odor in the first room, it was hard to believe this was a Plus Hotel. See the photos.

I booked through booking expecting breakfast because the listing said it was included. When we arrived, they told us no breakfast would be served during our stay. The attendants did nothing to make up for the change, and the late notice forced us to change our plans significantly. Our room smelled of marijuana and had sunflower seed shells on the floor. The attendants were rude and indifferent, and doors slammed all night.
