Motel 6 Palm Springs, CA - Downtown

I just need a comfortable bed, a warm shower, and somewhere safe to sleep when I travel on a budget. This stay missed those basics. There were people lingering in the parking lot when I arrived, which made me uncomfortable. At check-in the desk was unattended for about five minutes while two guests waited ahead of me. One behaved erratically, as if drugs might be involved. My key didn’t work on the first trip to the third floor. When I went back to the office, I was rudely told it must have been too close to my phone. It worked the second time, but the room had several problems: curtains coming off the rod, a towel bar pulling out of the wall, and a dead outlet by the sink. The bedding looked gray instead of clean white, the towels were tiny, and missing door molding let stairwell light into the room all night. The walls were paper thin. Most concerning, the deadbolt didn’t work, so I wedged a chair under the handle to feel a little safer. I started sneezing right away and suspect the room hadn’t been properly cleaned after a pet stay, which is a problem with my cat allergy. While there, I found information that local agencies and organizations have used Palm Springs Motel 6 locations for temporary or emergency housing. Given the atmosphere during my stay, it seemed that might be happening here now. Whatever the reason, the place didn’t feel safe or well managed. There was almost nothing in the way of amenities, no shampoo, conditioner, or hair dryer. Poorly maintained, uncomfortable, and unsafe. I wouldn’t stay again.

We had a generally comfortable stay for the price, and the staff were friendly. I would have rated the Motel 6 much higher if not for what we found when leaving. As we cleaned up, we lifted the fitted sheets on both beds and saw extensive dark, deeply set stains on the mattresses. They looked like they could be blood or bodily fluids. The sheets themselves were clean, but the mattresses were disturbing and seemed unsanitary. Management should address this right away, either by replacing them or having them professionally deep-cleaned. I strongly suggest checking under every fitted sheet as soon as you arrive. It’s otherwise a good, reliable Motel 6, and I was happy with the overall experience, but this serious sanitation issue detracted from the stay.

Of my last five monthly stays, this was the best room, thanks to Cassandra at the front desk. I’m 82, and she offered me a first-floor room. Nobody has done that for me before. I appreciated it a lot. She’s an excellent employee.

Scam motel. We checked in with a paid reservation and were later locked out. At the front desk they demanded payment, refused to help, and called the police, even though we only wanted an inexpensive room for the night. The staff lie, and management is in on it. As police escorted us to collect our luggage, we walked past a drug deal. They clearly seem to call the local police often. Stay somewhere else if you can.
