A few days before your trip, you may learn the property is “oversold.” We booked through a Choice Hotels deal that offered a discounted three-night suite in exchange for sitting through a presentation, but they moved us because vacation share members or “owners” get priority. The replacement was a less desirable hotel we hadn’t chosen. We ended up downtown at the Golden Nugget, where it was noisy and dirty, customer service was bad, the pool was closed, and getting to the Strip area activities we’d planned took a lot of time. Other people at the presentation said they’d also been moved to places they didn’t want. After seeing Bluegreen’s nice suites on the tour and hearing how much better it is than a hotel, the whole setup makes membership seem more appealing, especially after a lousy hotel stay. We got a cheap stay in Vegas, but not the one we were promised. Buyer beware.

We liked the location, the service, and the price we paid. Our fourth-floor room was clean, spacious, and everything worked. We appreciated the Strip view, which was beautiful day and night. We were there for two nights over Christmas, booking through Choice Hotels. The reason we picked the place was its large heated indoor pool, which our son loves. There was free parking with plenty of spaces, no resort fee despite being near the Strip and having a pool and Wi-Fi, and a shuttle to the Strip every 30 minutes until 11 pm. The kitchen had cookware, so it was easy to make hot coffee in the morning with small children instead of going out or waiting in line. The bathroom and shower were large and comfortable, and having a washer and dryer onsite was handy. I packed fewer clothes on purpose and did laundry before we left. Being a little away from the crowds was nice since the Strip gets chaotic during the holidays. The drawbacks were a humid fourth floor that smelled of pool chlorine, though we only noticed it for a short while, and not many elevators, which made the corridor walks take a while. The lobby and courtyard felt old and plain, with minimal decor. The place could use some freshness, modern design, and a Starbucks. Even just fixing up the lobby and courtyard would help. The beds were uncomfortable and the pillows worse, but that’s common in hotels in this category, so I didn’t lower the rating for it. They invited Santa, and we got to take photos and videos with him, which was a nice extra. We wanted to stay one more night, but there was a two-night minimum, so we booked somewhere else in the center of the Strip. They offered a presentation in exchange for show tickets, but we declined. They didn’t push and backed off quickly. We also liked the gingerbread houses in the lobby. We voted for numbers 5, 7, and 3, and we’re still wondering which one won. Thanks, Bluegreen Club 36, for your hospitality.

A few restaurants outside have pizza, bagels, and wings, and there’s a great shuttle to and from Planet Hollywood every half hour. The last pickup is at 11:10 pm. From here it was about a $25 Uber or taxi ride to Top of the World at Strat. It’s loud at the end of Harry Reid Airport. We were in room 407B, where the toilet was noisy. I told the front office two days in a row, but it was never fixed. It’s also a long walk to the elevators.

The rooms are nicely remodeled, and the staff are friendly. It’s close to the airport, so you hear the jets, though most of the Strip is near the flight path too. There’s a shuttle to the Strip. I’ll definitely stay here again.

The long hallways are a pain if you’re carrying things, and at the time of my visit only one elevator was working. With so many floors and rooms, that was a problem. Room 516B isn’t one I’d recommend, though maybe another floor on the opposite wing would be better. The staff were helpful, professional, and knowledgeable. I booked under a timeshare promotion, but I’m not sure I’d come back. It’s too close to the airport for me.
