Fairfield Inn & Suites Paramus

The location is good, but the room was very basic and hadn’t been renovated like other Marriott hotels in this price range. They’d put in newer bathroom vanity countertops, but the sharp, awkward corners kept hitting my arms. Breakfast was horrendous, the worst I’ve ever had. The scrambled eggs were sitting in a puddle of water, the sausages tasted like cardboard cooked in stale lard, and even the bagels were a little bitter, probably stale. Who was making this? A random guest might’ve done better, since at least a guest would know not to serve it.

Lori, the General Manager, handled every detail beautifully, starting with my first call about the wedding. She took care of the first hotel block and then the second, and her shuttle service recommendation was top notch. The hotel made things easy for everyone and gave us a great space for the after party. We used it for my daughter and son-in-law’s New Year’s Eve wedding. I’d absolutely recommend it as a place to stay.

I asked to speak with Lori, the General Manager, as the employee had suggested, but she wouldn’t come out. I had to ask again. When she finally spoke with me, she was unapologetic, seemed not to care, and said there was nothing she could do. People I encountered were on their personal phones and couldn’t help with basic requests like an extra pillow. Even a little empathy would’ve mattered. I’m left thinking the hotel doesn’t care about guests, and if I hadn’t caught the charge, they might have kept my money. The previous night, the employee checking me in had accidentally charged me for a room I’d already prepaid. The next morning, another front desk employee couldn’t explain the charge and told me to go through a complicated process or wait 4-30 days for the money to be returned. This was a huge part of why I gave the hotel such a poor rating.

Housekeeping never came to our room. After being out all day, we came back to find the used towels still on the floor where we’d left them, with no fresh ones. The room smelled bad, and we couldn’t control the temperature. I have a feather allergy and requested foam pillows, but none were available. Breakfast was subpar. There was no waffle batter, little choice of hot food, and many trays were empty and hadn’t been refilled, even though this was 45 minutes before breakfast ended.
