Paxton Inn Motel

The one decent thing was that I slept okay on my own bedding and pillow. Everything else was a mess. The door wouldn’t open properly, then wouldn’t stay shut. There was only a quarter roll of toilet paper and no extra, one towel, and no tissues. The bed looked used, with crumpled sheets, the shower wasn’t clean, and the toiletries were open and used. The coffee pot was dirty with grounds inside, and there was beer in the fridge. The remote’s volume control didn’t work, though thankfully the TV was set low. Never staying here again.

The slot machine room was a lovely feature, with air conditioning, a bathroom, and lots of new machines in a space just for players. The people were friendly and attentive, and they were there whenever I needed something. I felt comfortable and at home, and had a very enjoyable stay. I’d definitely check this place out.

I remember having supper and breakfast at the barn-shaped diner next door, and both meals were pretty good. We spent a night at the motel while passing through in November 1977, with no complaints. The M on the Motel sign by the freeway was burned out, so we joked that it was the “otel.” It’s probably been fixed by now. Sorry this post is late, but I’ve been busy, and had to wait for someone to invent the WWW.

Nasty! I got locked in the bathroom for ten minutes. Luckily I know how to get out of situations like that. I used the room key to undo the screws and pop the knob off.
