Quality Inn Peru near Starved Rock State Park

The waffles are usually my breakfast favorite, but these tasted sour, so I had to throw them away. I'm not sure how prepackaged batter could go sour. The coffee, even the Bold option, was as weak as coffee that's already been run through the grounds. I mentioned that to the desk clerk, who seemed to do something, but it was still pale, watery coffee. In my first-floor room, I was hit by a stale, damp smell on entering. It reeked of mildew, though I couldn't see any. The floor along the baseboards hadn't been vacuumed in a very long time, and the bed was spongy, dipped in the middle, and poorly made. A very disappointing stay.

I travel for work as a floating driver, sometimes spending a month away from my home branch, so I've stayed in plenty of hotels. The Peru Quality is easily the best value in the area. Ottawa and Morris are overpriced by comparison. For about $60-80 a night, the rooms are large and clean, the bathrooms are in great shape, the pool looks nice, and there's a solid breakfast. Other hotels charge $125 or more for what you get here. The beds are insanely comfortable, and the front desk people are all very kind and helpful. They'll go out of their way if you need something. I judge a hotel on value, safety, and cleanliness, and this place gets five stars on all three. It's a 10/10 for me, and I'll stay here whenever work brings me to the area. Stop looking and book here!

I've tried staying here a few times for work, but I won't stay here again. The elevator's operating and inspection certificate was more than four months out of date, and I have a photo to prove it. The pool wasn't working when we checked in, though they got it running by the end of our stay. They also charged the full amount at check-in. I usually leave a card on file and pay when I check out, but that wasn't how this place handled it. Both times, the person at the desk seemed clueless and couldn't answer my questions. I'll use a different hotel chain when I travel to this area.

I tried to get a room at 3 a.m., but they said I'd have to pay for two days even though I was checking out at 11 a.m. They said the manager wouldn't allow it. Don't stay here, they're just money hungry. Go to la Quinta, they actually help you.
