The hotel has a characterful, intimate feel without charging boutique prices or acting pretentious. It isn’t flashy or ultra-luxury, and that’s part of the appeal. The rooms were clean and comfortable, with a classic look that suits the building and neighborhood. Service was friendly and straightforward, and the stay felt easy and low-key. Its spot in historic Old City is the real draw. You can walk to major landmarks, restaurants, bars, and the waterfront, and step outside straight into the area’s history and energy. I didn’t need a car. If luxury is what you’re after, look elsewhere. For a well-located hotel with personality and good value that doesn’t try too hard, Penn’s View Hotel is a smart choice.

We only got to stay one night instead of the whole weekend because a snowstorm was coming and we wanted to get home before it started. We’ll definitely come back. The restaurant food was absolutely phenomenal, and the hotel was adorable, with an atmosphere that felt like the 1950s in a good way. Our room was extremely clean and had a fireplace that made it cozy and warm.

The room we had was amazingly spacious for our family of five, and the hotel was safe, clean, comfortable, affordable, elegant, and fun. Housekeeping did a wonderful job. The woman cleaning our floor had left towels and a cart blocking the way, so we couldn’t get through with our things. She apologized, quickly moved the towels, and was incredibly kind. I felt bad asking her to do that, so I went to the ATM on the second floor and took out $20 for her. Even with a roomy bedroom, I wouldn’t recommend this place for families. There’s no easy way to bring luggage, a pack and play, or a stroller or wagon inside. The lobby is tiny, and we felt packed in like sardines with three kids, even though nobody gave us angry looks. The hallways are even narrower, and the stairs fit only one person at a time. The elevator is fine. No microwaves or coffee makers in the rooms, either. The staff were great overall, apart from the young guy at the front who seemed like he didn’t want to be there. The two older men at the desk were especially kind, respectful, and accommodating. They have coffee and pastries for breakfast, and they were delicious and handy to grab and go. But Philly has such good breakfast options that I wouldn’t make these your main meal.

We live in this amazing city and have been lucky to try many of its must-experience hotels. Penns View Hotel is the best place we’ve found, and I almost don’t want to share our little secret. We made an impromptu plan to get away for an evening, and I’m so glad we picked it. The room was quiet despite the hotel being completely booked, with soft, comfortable linens and pillows, exposed brick, clean amenities, and plenty of space. A short run of stairs led to the loft’s main area, where skylights gave us a view of the Ben Franklin bridge and the Delaware River. Check-in at the front desk was quick, and staff greeted us warmly, even sharing a little ghost story. We loved the nostalgic real keys with their brass tag and engraved room number. We didn’t get a chance to eat at the attached restaurant, Panorama, but we know from past experience that the food is top-notch and the wine selection is unparalleled.

The manager made a real effort to welcome me, and everyone I met was hospitable. I had a fantastic stay, and now it’ll be hard to stay anywhere without a fireplace, ha! The muffins are homemade by the bakery at the adjoining restaurant, which was such a nice surprise. Between the views, location, price, staff, and overall experience, this place can’t be beat. I can’t recommend it enough if you’re coming to Philly.
