Royal Inn Clearfield

The cigarette smell was awful, and the room had mold and mildew when we checked in. We had to deep clean it ourselves and buy air fresheners to cover the odor. The check-in process was terrible, but we were there on business and had booked because this was closest to our job site. Dealing with Tammy was horrible. She was loud and obnoxious, and kept messing up our payments by processing amounts higher than what we'd been quoted. This happened to the whole crew, and we finally paid cash because our account kept being messed up. The hotel is supposed to prohibit animals, yet they let some guys leave a Pomeranian in the open bed of a truck overnight and during the day. It ran loose and barked constantly, even though the law says it had to be leashed. When we raised the fact that it was shut in the truck bed in 42 degree nighttime weather, they said it was okay. Tammy's response was, “let me see what I CANT DO.” They were completely rude to guests who weren't single males. When we're back in the area, we'll gladly pay more to stay elsewhere.

I had no housekeeping during my five-day stay and ran out of toiletries. When I came back to the room on the second day, my key card didn't work. It was around 1 a.m., and at the office they asked how long I was staying, even though my five-day reservation was paid for. The room itself was in bad shape: stained carpet throughout, mold in the shower, and marks on the walls. Although all the rooms are non-smoking, mine reeked of cigarette smoke as soon as I walked in. I went to a local store to buy air and fabric sanitizer just so I could breathe. The one perk was a 10% discount at the Farm table restaurant, which is separate from the hotel.

The price was good, and the place was mostly clean but run down. There were lots of people hanging out in the parking lot, though some may have been long-term guests. We came to town for a race and couldn't check in until after 3, which was super inconvenient. Surely there was one room ready? Our TV didn't work, either, and the deadbolt was just a hole.

We stayed at the Royal Inn for the white out game weekend because it was the only hotel that wasn't charging an absurd amount. Now we know why. The rooms were dirty and very dated, there wasn't any soap in the bathrooms, and the room had a musty, stale smell. There's a ring camera in the hallway that loudly announces “you’re being recorded” whenever the outside door opens.
