The staff earned five stars from me, but I’d give the rooms three out of five. I checked in smoothly, and the building and overall amenities looked good. The first room smelled really bad, so I had to ask to move. They found me another one at no extra charge, which I appreciated. Then the light in that room didn’t work properly, and the phone was out too. A technician came promptly to fix the light but couldn’t repair the phone. They offered to knock on my door for a wake-up instead of calling, and they did, which I appreciated. So I’ve got mixed feelings. Both rooms had problems and that annoyed me, but they did try to help. By the way, my appointment didn’t include breakfast. It wasn’t a big deal, but I’d booked directly through IHG at the regular price rather than another website, so I’d wondered why breakfast wasn’t included.
8/10
The only small thing I’d suggest is turning down the music near the elevators during the day. You can hear it in the nearby rooms, which could bother light sleepers trying to nap. The music is off at night, and when I asked, the hotel moved me to another room, so noise wasn’t much of an issue after that. The rooms are spacious and clean, the staff provide great service, and there’s a good range of free breakfast options. The hotel also has a fitness room.
8/10
The location was especially convenient for travel, close to the airport, and the pool area was clean and relaxing. Breakfast was very good, with a nice range of choices. My stay at the Holiday Inn Express in Phoenix was pleasant overall. The room had a mild mildew smell, though, and the TV offered only around 40 channels, fewer than I expected. Better room freshness and more entertainment options could take a good stay up a notch.
6/10
The room felt extremely outdated and needed a deep cleaning. The carpets and walls in the common areas did too. On the good side, the staff were terrific and very accommodating, and breakfast had a very good selection. The shuttle running every 30 minutes was a plus.
10/10
The staff were really friendly and helpful, and I’d definitely recommend staying here. As expected with Holiday Inn, except the pool was supposed to be heated to 80 and definitely wasn’t warm. The hot tub was warm, though.
