Motel 6 Ann Arbor

It was a good deal for the price. The office staff were friendly and efficient, and the room was clean with comfortable beds. We stayed six days, though one day we didn't get fresh towels, and with just one towel bar it was hard to dry them. The TV picture was too dark to see well, and we couldn't adjust the setting.

For a night on the road, I'd stay here again. Check-in was quick, and the clerk was friendly and efficient. It was above average compared with other Motel 6 places I've used while traveling with pets, mainly because of the cost and convenience. It's what you'd expect at this price, no more and no less, and comparing it with pricier hotels or dwelling on every little flaw misses the point. The location is handy, just off I-94 and around 20 minutes from Detroit Metro Airport. The rooms have had recent, inexpensive updates in Motel 6's minimalist studio style. They were clean and odor-free, though wear around the doors and walls was still visible. There was some noise coming through from the next room. Noticeable, but not awful.

The night clerk was kind and welcoming, and the mattresses seemed fairly new. That's about where the positives end. The room was only somewhat clean, the lock was hard to use, and the door didn't sit properly in its frame, so outside light showed through. The bottom sheets wouldn't stay on the bed, either. I asked for an extra blanket and was told there weren't any. On the second day, housekeeping left no washcloths, so we called to have some brought up. The next day there were none again. I went to the office this time, and the night clerk gave me a pile of towels and a blanket. We’ll spend more for an upgraded hotel next time. No more Motel 6 for us.

We couldn't last an hour. The room smelled like wet dog, wasn't swept, and had a chipped floor, crumbs on the headboard, four dead bugs and a spider web. The fridge leaked water across the floor toward the bathroom. The door needed two people pushing on it to lock, and the bathroom door wouldn't shut. They only provided soap, no small shampoo or conditioner bottles. The pool was much smaller than the pictures made it look. The main building looks nice, but the outside looked bad, and the area felt industrial, a little ghetto, and farther from the scene. The woman at the front desk was kind and understood why we didn't want to stay, which is why I'm giving two stars instead of one. We went to another hotel about 1.5 miles away. It cost a bit more, but was truly worth it.
