I didn’t choose this place, my friend’s mother did, but once we saw the room we booked the Sheraton down the street. The refrigerator was on old carpet with live roaches crawling around it. The room smelled of cigarettes, and the shower was moldy with live beetles and roaches. There were stains on the beds that looked like pee, and it seemed clear the sheets weren’t being washed. The doors looked easy to break into, even with the keypad, and the staff seemed careless. I wouldn’t be surprised if someone could get in for free. Don’t be fooled by the good price or pictures. This place was the worst, a nasty dump.

The room itself was pretty clean, considering it looked like it dated from the mid-70s, and the air conditioning was adequate. The staff members were very nice. Still, the motel was quite run down, and there was a homeless person sleeping in the stairwell near our room. I’m not a fan of motel-style rooms with doors opening to the outside. We were stuck there during spring break and near Parkland's march for life.

At least it was cheap and felt safe enough, and the pool area was the one part that was half decent. Otherwise, I was very disappointed and won’t stay again. I’ve been to plenty of budget hotels, and this was among the worst. The rooms were extremely outdated, with damaged, ratty furniture, scuffed walls, hard beds, and small bathrooms. Nothing was obviously dirty, but the rundown condition made it feel unclean. It seemed like they’d put zero effort into making the place desirable.

The carpets in our room were really old, and I think that was causing the awful smell. The heater made it worse, and I couldn’t sleep all night. By morning, I had a bad sore throat. The hotel looks nice from outside and the staff were very friendly, but both rooms we tried smelled terrible. We started in a first-floor double, then reception moved us to a second-floor suite, which was somehow even worse. The bathroom also looked like it had been tiled by someone who didn’t know how to do the job. We stayed a week ago, and it was a huge disappointment. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone, it felt more like a very low-end motel.

The room itself was clean and nice. I could tell they were remodeling, though: some repaired spots in the bathroom still needed paint. The bathroom door only shut if I pushed it past the commode, and figuring out the lamps when I first came in was tricky. Aside from those things, it was a nice stay at the Sunrise, FL.
