Sheraton Suites Plantation, Fort Lauderdale West

Housekeeping left my door open after cleaning, which felt concerning and unacceptable. The rooms were in rough shape too. In the second one, the carpet was dirty, the bed had a noticeable sinkhole, the heat didn’t work, and the toilet kept stopping up. It smelled a little better than the first room, where the carpet was visibly dirty, the sheet was so stained it should have been thrown out, and there was an unpleasant odor. The lobby gives a misleading impression of the Sheraton Suites Fort Lauderdale. The place is outdated and poorly maintained, and needs a complete renovation. My stay fell well short of basic comfort, cleanliness, and safety, and I don’t think it should be open to the public in its current condition. If you want it more blunt, more emotional, or more professional (for corporate or a refund request), say the word and I’ll tune it exactly how you need.

I used beach shoes in the shower every time after my wife nearly fell on the slippery floor. The body wash, Gilchrist & Soames Body Wash, contains oil, and left the shower/tub floor extremely slick. We were at the 311 N University Sheraton Suites Hollywood, FL for four nights, Jan 24 to 28, because of the recent snow and ice in Atlanta, GA. I asked the front desk for a bath mat and was told housekeeping would come clean the shower, but nobody came. On Sunday morning I asked for a manager and was told he was off. A management person, a trainer from Texas, offered to help. He said they used to provide bath mats but hotel regulations made them remove them, and said he’d report the issue to the hotel manager. He took my room number, 843, and apologized that housekeeping hadn’t shown up the previous night. The employee also said many guests are seniors and understood my concern. The hotel is very nice, but this is a serious issue. Sheraton management should switch to body wash without oil or provide bath mats. Continued use could get someone badly hurt or even killed, and I consider it negligence on Sheraton and Marriott’s part. I emailed Tony Capuano at Marriott after getting home and haven’t had a response yet.

Beautiful hotel, tasty food, and excellent service from a great staff. I especially want to thank housekeeping. My husband left his wedding ring behind, and they found it. The supervisor, Jalicia Brooks, was so accommodating and express mailed the ring back to us. We really appreciated her honesty, professionalism, and trustworthiness. Thank you, Mrs. Brooks.

The suite had a bedroom plus a separate living room with a kitchenette and desk, and each room had its own TV. There were two sinks in the bathroom, along with a tub and shower combo. Staff were excellent and always greeted us warmly. Parking was the downside. The hotel’s parking structure is about half a major city block away, and it costs $12 a day. They don’t really tell you that until you’ve booked and read the fine print.
