Days Inn by Wyndham Plattsburgh

I was unsure after reading mixed reviews, but I’m glad I gave it a try. The room and sheets were very clean, and there was plenty of space in the room, even though the bathroom was on the small side. It’s clearly an old Holiday Inn, but that didn’t bother me. Good value for the price and a convenient spot near stores and restaurants. I’d stay again.

The arcade was the one thing my family liked. The rest of the experience means I won’t stay here again. The hotel is dated, the hallways are dim, and the man at the front desk wasn’t very nice. The pool was huge but so cloudy we couldn’t see the bottom, and my kids said it felt slimy. The whole pool area seemed crusty. The elevator was small and sketchy, so we took the stairs. Our key wouldn’t open the first room. Housekeeping eventually got the door open, but before that the desk man told me to switch rooms. I went down to do that, and he seemed annoyed with the option he’d suggested. The room was fairly clean, but the beds were noisy and uncomfortable, with a big dip in the mattress that I kept sinking into. We would’ve stayed elsewhere, but Best Western only had a room for us for one night, so we had to book another night somewhere else, at DaysInn.

The lobby, elevators, and breakfast area all felt dingy. The breakfast room was freezing, some lights were out, and the food reminded me of a food bank. The hall wallpaper was peeling, the room had no lighting, and the fridge and microwave were dirty. There was hair all over the bathroom and stained sheets. People walked barefoot from the pool, leaving the lobby and elevators wet. Reception staff were rude and arrogant, acted like we were bothering them, didn’t say hi as we passed, and dressed like slobs. I’d never recommend or stay here again. And before management replies with the usual thanks for the feedback and promise to look into it, save it. They’ve been posting that reply for ages, and it’s clear no changes have been made. Stay elsewhere.

Several relatives came from out of state for a wedding on the weekend of 9/26. They had booked months in advance and received email confirmations with confirmation numbers, but at check-in the front desk said the reservations weren’t in the system, even when shown proof. One of them was a 93 year old man, and they were left without a place to stay. It was SUNY Plattsburgh Alumni and Family Weekend, a major local event drawing people from all over. The usual rate when my family booked was around $189, but it seems clear to me the hotel gave their reserved rooms to other guests they could charge $300 or $400 a night during the SUNY event. That’s a horrible and unethical business practice. With every hotel nearby booked, my family had to find rooms in Lake Placid and Vermont, more than an hour away. The staff and management didn’t seem to care at all. Do yourself a favor and book somewhere else.
