MainStay Suites Port Arthur - Beaumont South

I picked the carpet-free suite, and it was lovely. The room was spotless, as were the three rooms Betzy showed me before I booked. Mrs. Margarita did an immaculate job cleaning mine. I can’t stress enough how clean the rooms were, and the staff was friendly. I hope they keep that standard up, because it matters to people like me who stay in nice hotels often. I was in town for two nights because bad weather made it hard to get home after work. I manage a restaurant nearby, and my company was covering the hotel, so I came to look around first. The carpet smell in some rooms was unpleasant. They clean it, but it may not have enough time to dry. Maybe they could remove the carpet from all the rooms. I also had a misunderstanding with Amrit. We were trying to say the same thing, but at first he wouldn’t listen. I kept things professional and the conversation stayed positive. He did make it right in the end, though he could improve his customer service.

After a long workday, check-in was quick and easy thanks to the friendly, helpful front desk. The hotel was very clean and in a good location. I’d definitely recommend it for a longer stay.

When I checked my room, I found the balcony door standing open and realized someone had been inside, even though I’d put up a do not disturb sign. I’d been working a long shift and had only asked for fresh towels and cleaning every other day. I didn’t feel safe staying there, so I packed my bags and drove four hours home after a ten-hour shift, instead of resting and heading home the next day. I’d already paid for the week. The front desk young woman wouldn’t give me a receipt, and the breakfast was trash. I won’t return, and I’ll tell everyone at my company to avoid it. This happened after my key stopped working when I got back to the hotel. The young woman at the desk reactivated it, and when I went back upstairs, I found the room had been entered.

There are roaches, and the room smells moldy. The refrigerator doesn’t work even though there’s a kitchen, and housekeeping comes in despite the do not disturb sign. The smoke alarm has gone off twice at random this week. I’ve heard alarms in other rooms too, so there may be a problem with the system.
