1873 Victorian Rose B & B

We’d planned to stay the night after reading such good reviews, but the room was unbearably hot, smelled of cigarette smoke and damp, and was filthy. The bathroom was so dirty that we didn’t use it. The owner’s daughter gave us a very brief tour and came across as rude, making it clear we were a nuisance. She also told us her parents could only have the place because of insurance money after a fire at their previous home. After going to our favorite winery, we returned to collect our things and drive home after a two-hour trip. We met the owner and her husband then, and found them strange. The owner showed me a little pond she’d made and talked to and fed the coral fish as if they were alive, though they were dead. Her two cats, which she describes on the website, were nearly hairless, had what looked like maggots on them, and had bite marks that looked like an attack by some kind of wild animal. I pointed out how serious their condition seemed. She said her vet was seeing them and told me not to worry. She’d said on the phone that the parlor was under construction, but it was actually packed with junk from floor to ceiling. The kitchen where she makes breakfast was also full of junk, and she puts her dogs in there when she’s away. The house was disgusting and should be destroyed. What the website advertises is false. I’m out $120, but I felt it was worth it to learn the animals need help and rescue as soon as possible. I’ll contact the health and food department and animal welfare so the animals are cared for and other people don’t book a stay there.

Sandy and Corky are wonderful hosts, and this beautiful old Victorian is a lovely place to get away. The rooms are comfortable, clean, and nice. It’s in a quiet little town, not too far from the interstate or Ohio’s Amish country. You’ll be blessed!

The breakfast is awesome, and the owners are so genuine. The place is clean and well looked after, with visible restoration work each time I come back. I’ve stayed at the Victorian Rose more than once and plan to keep returning.

Our room was comfortable and clean, and dinner was delicious. We felt at ease right away, welcomed at the door like family. The house tour gave us a great sense of its history, and we were given freshly baked banana bread muffins and iced tea to tide us over until dinner. Our private nook had coffee, snacks, and books, and the friendly atmosphere let us recharge. We’ll definitely return!
