Downtown Value Inn

It was an older hotel and could use some updates, but it was clean, and the staff were welcoming and helpful. There was no breakfast. The room stayed warm with its window unit, and while the blankets were thin, they were enough. I could hear the tram stop beneath my window, but it didn't bother me. The area felt quiet and safe, and the location was good. There's a parking lot too, a bit tricky to get in and out of, but having one downtown is a plus.

The lot was really convenient and the staff were great. Hallways smelled like cigarette smoke, though thankfully my room didn't. The carpets could use refreshing, but it's a good spot for a one to three day stay.

Nicole at reception was fantastic. She was professional and courteous, and sorted out a small issue effortlessly. Some rooms sit close to the tram tracks, so ask for a quieter one if you need absolute silence at night. This is my new favorite budget hotel in Portland. It's downtown and an easy walk to businesses, coffee shops, restaurants, and Portland State U. There are homeless people in the area, but I didn't feel unsafe at night. On-site parking is included, which is so useful, and I liked the tiled bathroom and curved shower curtain rod. I'd happily stay again.

The only good things were the location and the nice receptionist. The walk to the room stank of cigarette smoke, and the room had a faint smoke smell too. The floor was covered with stains, the shower head was so messed up it hurt to shower, and there was food left in the fridge. Under the bed was food trash, including actual chicken from the previous guest. The room was haunted 👻, seriously. We only needed a night's sleep, so we slept on top of the blankets in our jackets. Never again.
