EVEN Hotel Portland – Beaverton by IHG

The staff are the bright spot here. Rachel at the front desk is friendly and responsive, Ruthie made breakfast fun and made sure we had what we needed, and Mike makes incredible breakfast eggs, the best I've had. But management needs to fix the problems if they want me to keep staying here. I stopped going to the Crown Plaza over smaller issues. This is a young hotel, about seven months old as of Dec 2025, and it still has things to work out. Some are minor, but others concern me. It seems like construction may have been rushed and the budget too tight. I've stayed in three rooms, and the switches for the motion-sensor lights were wired wrong in all of them. Each room also has a large gap on either side of the PTAC, letting light around the blackout shade. The doors slam because all the door closers need adjustment. One room's door wouldn't latch at all, which is concerning because someone could get in unless the deadbolt was locked. The light switches should each control one light, with the switches by the bed working as a three-way with the ones by the door. The motion sensor should have constant power instead of being downstream of a switch. These are basic mistakes that should have been caught before opening. Adjusting the door closers would take only a few minutes with a screwdriver. I'll leave management a list at the front desk when I check out.

Rachael at the front desk made the stay feel much more personal and enjoyable. She was delightful, funny, and had good suggestions for restaurants, cafes and things to do. Ruthie at the restaurant was also very helpful and friendly. I wish the rest of the staff were as attentive and courteous. The room was adequate, but the bed was too high for an older person, especially someone with knee problems. Room service was poor: during our 3-4 days there, they changed the towels and made the bed, but never cleaned the toilet. They took away the empty tissue box and didn't replace it.

I stayed for four days and found the hotel very clean, with nice staff from what I observed. I felt safe there, and there's plenty of parking and a grocery store directly across the street. It's a good choice if you want a clean, relaxed, safe stay and don't mind driving or using a rideshare to get downtown. If you want to be in the middle of downtown Portland's bustle, this isn't the hotel for you. I'd rate my stay 4.2 out of 5. Very nice hotel.

We had a perfect breakfast today in a lovely, clean dining room. Our server was friendly and really efficient. My vegetable omelet and fruit salad were fresh and delicious, and the omelet was cooked through just as I asked. My husband's eggs and sausage came exactly as ordered. We're here for three more days and already looking forward to breakfast tomorrow. It's a great location for a quiet, relaxing stay.
