My wife and I travel a lot for work, family, and friends, and we almost always stay at Hyatt. This is one of our favorites. The downtown location is excellent, the decor is chic, breakfast is great, and the place is clean and cheerful. The staff are a terrific team and make a real effort to connect with guests. Jeremiah and Michael at the front desk have been consistently outstanding. We recently stayed ten days, and the warm, welcoming feeling was still there every time we walked in.

The walls are so thin that we could hear a group playing loud music for hours while they got ready, and every time a door slammed, we felt and heard it. I’d ask for a room at the end of the hall if I stayed again. Still, the room had a huge, bright window, a fun modern desk, and lots of outlets. There’s a rug over the concrete floor, and the frosted glass shower was a little strange. The lobby has a cafe and quick takeaway food, plus luggage storage, two check-in desks, an ice machine, and a water dispenser that I heard is sometimes moved elsewhere. We stayed one night in November 2025. The downtown location was great, with a trolley stop across the street and plenty of nearby coffee and food, including Japanese ramen and katsu sandwiches. I’d consider coming back, especially using points.

The worst part was the fire alarm in the middle of the night. We were in town with a big group for a national basketball tournament when someone described as drunk pulled the alarm around 2 a.m. Staff kept shutting it off every 20-30 seconds for about an hour. People were evacuating, but nobody told us what was happening. We still didn’t know after checkout. Losing an hour of sleep was rough, especially with kids competing the next day. There was no compensation, and communication was very disappointing. I was also charged more than twice the correct amount for valet parking. They said it was a mistake, but I still haven’t received a refund or heard anything about it. After the manager replied asking me to contact him, I reached out, and more than a week later nobody in management had responded. Dinner was a mess. My son and I waited 50 minutes for a cold grilled cheese and a piece of salmon on shredded lettuce presented as a salmon Caesar salad. Others at our table, who ordered at the same time, got their food first. The single server was working hard, but was clearly understaffed. We’d have gone somewhere else if we’d known. In our room, the coffee maker still had an old, moldy Keurig cup in it, and there were grounds in the water dispenser. The hotel itself is nice, but the stay was mediocre at best for the amount we paid. We won’t be back.

The restaurant staff were patient, helpful, and efficient, and every meal was a pleasure. The food was delicious and priced very reasonably. From management and housekeeping to the rest of the team, everyone was kind, courteous, and professional. Our room was spotless, well cared for, and even smelled lovely. Hyatt Centric Portland really gets hospitality right. Keep up the great work!

Valet parking is the only option, and it costs about $65 a day. The front desk and valet staff were friendly and helpful. This is an excellent downtown Portland location, within walking distance of the main attractions. The building is older but updated, with a fun, funky look.
