La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham Portland DT/Maine Med

We were close enough to downtown that we walked pretty much everywhere, and nights were quiet and comfortable. Check-in was smooth, with genuinely friendly and helpful people at the front desk. The room was clean and average, nothing fancy but nothing sketchy. Housekeeping comes every three days rather than daily, which worked fine for us since we were mostly out exploring and sleeping there. It's a dependable, convenient place if comfort and a clean room matter more to you than extras. I wouldn't call it a luxury stay, but I'd recommend it without hesitation.

The room looked clean and the bed was comfortable if you like a soft mattress. That's about all I liked. Parking in their own lot costs $10, the front desk woman was rude, and the shower only got lukewarm. It was noisy being right by the train, so we didn't sleep well. We've liked other La Quintas, just not this one.

We were exhausted from traveling all day and didn't want to look for somewhere else at 11pm, so we reluctantly stayed. This is the kind of hotel that should only charge $50 a night. Around 10pm, my son showered and said the bathroom floor felt nasty. I wet a Kleenex and wiped it, and found dirt and hair that wasn't ours. I took it to the desk and asked for a different room. Before moving the kids and all our things, I checked the other bathroom the same way. It was even more disgusting. When I called downstairs, they said every room was cleaned to the same standard and that it was just settled dust. I was told the $10 parking fee would be refunded, but it never was. As a Wyndham Diamond member, I'm HIGHLY disappointed. Most Laquintas we've stayed at are nice, but this one wasn't.

It was quiet, which we loved, and the rooms were very clean. Still, the temperature control was locked at 72, so the room felt stuffy. The shower had empty shampoo and body wash, and housekeeping never came by, so we couldn't tell them or get fresh towels. At checkout nobody was at the desk, and we had to leave the key and go. I was also surprised to pay $10 a day for parking, since that's never happened to me before.
