The little garden, with seating spots and a fire pit, was adorable, and street parking was ample. It’s near White Heron cafe, CVS, and Hannaford for essentials, and downtown Portsmouth is an easy 8-10-minute walk. Great location, and I’ll definitely stay here again. It’s my new favorite little place in Portsmouth. This historic, cozy inn feels like a beautiful home, with just a small number of rooms. It had all the basics I needed: a fridge, coffee setup, blow dryer, smart TV, and Wi-Fi. I appreciated the 9 PM quiet hours. Contactless check-in and checkout were seamless. I got locked out the morning I checked out after walking down the street for coffee, but they sorted it out within minutes after I called.

It’s close to the center, but far enough away that noise wasn’t an issue. In three to five minutes on foot, there are a couple of small markets, a bagel place, and a very nice Greek restaurant. The Wi-Fi worked well. The place is nearly luxurious, and honestly, I can’t imagine anything better, or at least nothing I’d want. Cleaning and email communication were fine, more than adequate, but I wouldn’t call that service. I have no idea what it costs.

The Typhoon room was spotless and had lovely, cozy decor. We had a small issue with the door code on arrival, but it was sorted out with one phone call. The inn is also well placed, about a 10-15 minute walk from the main drag, with lots of restaurants, shops, and coffee spots. We came for a quick getaway and would happily return.

Even in winter, the garden was cared for and the path to the private parking lot was clear. Signs made it easy to find the different houses and rooms. We stayed in Dashing Wave on the second floor of the Guest House. The room was tidy and had up-to-date amenities, though the pillows had an odd lump in the middle that we couldn't fluff away. The bed itself was comfortable. The walls are thin and the stairs steep, as others have mentioned, but that fits the inn's historic feel. A downtown Portsmouth hidden gem, and I'd come back.

Karen deserves a special thank you for the great service. We stayed two nights in the Typhoon room, which was adorable, clean, and cozy, with everything we needed to make things easy. The grounds are beautifully maintained, and town is only a 10-minute walk away. We'll definitely be back next year.
