Residence Inn Portsmouth

Several maintenance problems have gone unresolved: ceiling paint falls on me whenever I shower, the bathroom handle is completely broken, the window is cracked, the microwave filter light has been on for a month, and there’s no light inside the refrigerator. When I bring problems to the GM, Arso, he dismisses me, responds with questions, and avoids taking responsibility. I feel he gaslights me, and some of the easier solutions seem discriminatory. Staff are disrespectful and rude, with maybe three exceptions. If you have a real problem, don’t expect it to get fixed. Be careful, too, or you may be falsely accused of things you didn’t do. It’s a shame, because Marriott used to be my favorite hotel chain. You’d be better off staying at the Hilton in Dover. I look forward to seeing this place run itself into the ground.

The hotel was peaceful, and the staff were friendly. Our room looked clean at first, though I found a dirty plate and spatula under the pull-out sofa. When I went to shower, there was no soap. My husband called the front desk, and they said someone would bring some right away, but 20 minutes later I was still waiting in the shower. He called again, and we finally got it after that second call. We were there for a little getaway.

The thermostat gave me trouble, but they moved me to a different room. The place was lovely, the room was clean and comfortable, and the service was very good.

The free breakfast was delicious, especially the crispy bacon, so thanks to the chef and kitchen staff for that. My room was spacious and spotless, and the location in Portsmouth felt quiet and peaceful. Free parking was a big plus. I've stayed at plenty of Marriott properties around the USA, and the front desk here was especially helpful. It was nice to see every team member greet guests with a smile, which seems rare at hotels these days. I highly recommend this property and will stay here again on my next Portsmouth visit.
