Rum River Motel Princeton

I wouldn't sleep in the bed without bringing my own sheets. This place was so dirty I wondered whether it had ever been cleaned. The lobby's old loveseat was greasy and grimy, with dead plants adding to the first impression. The room was no better: coffee stains on the sink and furniture just as dirty as the lobby. I wouldn't use the A/C unit with its greasy, filthy surface. Who knows what airborne germs might be in it? This should be reported to the health department. I can't see why it's still in business.

The manager was friendly and attentive, but the overall condition and cleanliness were seriously poor. During our three days, the floor wasn't swept or mopped once, and the linens and towels were stained and worn. I don't see how a guest could be expected to use them. The place gave no sense that anyone cared about its condition or quality. It looked like they'd given up.

We were charged $110 for a filthy room at the Rum River Inn. The sheets and bedding had holes, the room felt dirty, and there was an old broken box TV on the dresser beneath a flat screen mounted on the wall. Under the dresser were food crumbs and a layer of dirt. When my fiance asked if breakfast was included, the owner just pointed to the diner across the way. I didn't even ask for extra towels because I figured he'd point us to Walmart. The owner might come across as nice, but that wasn't my experience. We booked at the last minute because our usual Inn was full. If you're willing to drive about 15 miles south to Big Lake, the American Best Inn off Highway 10 is clean, reasonably priced, and has a family-atmosphere type setting. Raj helped me find a job within three days of staying at his motel. He's one of the kindest people I've met in a long time and works hard every day to help others. The place is quiet and tucked away, with a warm, clean room, morning coffee, and a friendly atmosphere. I'd recommend it.
