The Peacock Inn, an Ascend Collection Hotel

It's a comfortable, pleasant place to stay if you need to be near Princeton University. The hotel is nicely furnished and well maintained. Parking can be a little confusing, but the hotel staff will handle it for you. The continental breakfast is decent, though it's best to get there early before it runs out.

The owners were great about helping us after the snow made it impossible for my girlfriend and me to reach this lovely B&B on Sunday. Since I'd booked through a third party and it was the day before, I couldn't cancel the reservation. I called this morning, and they were able to accommodate us here today, Monday, at no extra cost. The service and food were excellent when I took my mom and two-year-old son to the Peacock Inn for afternoon tea on January 3. It was a post-Christmas present, and we had a wonderful time. We'll definitely come back.

At 1 am, a drunk older woman was trying hard to get into our room, insisting it was hers and that she'd left a tin of candy inside. That was the last straw. Earlier, I'd told the hotel days ahead that we were arriving early, but the front desk seemed surprised even though my file had an “early arrival” note. My wife and I had two bags, one weighing 60 lbs, and nobody was available to help. The woman at the desk offered, but it was clearly too heavy for her. The TV wasn't working, so she and a maid came into the room around ten times over 30 minutes trying to fix it. Then the internet failed when I opened my laptop for meetings. The front desk woman said, “that has never happened before,” and suggested I work in another room with better reception, but that room hadn't been cleaned. My wife was at the bar for lunch when a server randomly gave her a chocolate croissant, which I think was left from tea time. After she'd eaten it, he asked if she wanted dessert. The fridge in our room didn't work, and it was boiling hot despite the AC, even with it 0ºF outside. Wherever we went, the valet guy seemed to be lurking like a creep. In the morning, I used the valet app to get my car, but the desk said I'd have to retrieve it myself because the valet person doesn't work weekends. The continental breakfast coffee was cold in its thermos. When I told the desk about everything, he thanked me like I'd shared a bit of trivia, with no offer of a discount on this stay or a future one. We paid full price and got barely what you'd expect from even a regular hotel. This was an actual nightmare and we would never return. The staff seemed untrained apart from the bartender, and the amenities and services felt like an unsuccessful facade.
