The Putney Inn

We had a spacious, beautiful double queen room for our one-night visit to watch my son play college basketball nearby. The mattresses seemed brand new and were comfortable, the bathroom was clean, and there were plenty of fresh-smelling towels in different sizes. They provided two bars of soap, shampoo, and conditioner, as well as a mini fridge and microwave. Breakfast was included; we skipped it, but the options looked nice. The grounds are beautiful, parking is plentiful, and the inn is right off the highway. Check-in was quick and easy, and the price was fantastic. The room was a very pleasant surprise. Sound carries easily through the somewhat thin walls, and it would be nice if someone cleaned the cobwebs off the outside of the windows. Still, it was a beautiful place and we'd definitely stay again.

This place has a lot of potential, but the room needed serious dusting and the floor needed sweeping. There were burn holes in the bedspread. The bathroom was clean, though the towels were wet, so I couldn't tell whether they hadn't been laundered or hadn't dried.

The room was very clean, with comfortable queen beds and a nice, large bathtub. We were warmly welcomed with our dog, and the stay was pleasant and VERY QUIET. It's close to the north I-91 on-ramp and a small boat ramp onto the Connecticut river. We were on the first floor with a regular locking door and a patio door. The patio door wouldn't lock, so we used the luggage rack as a makeshift lock. The manager said it was easy to lock, but the lock didn't line up with the latch opening.

We stayed at the Putney Inn from 10/10-10/12. I choose only rooms specifically marked non-smoking because I have chronic migraines and strong odors affect me badly. There was a non-smoking sign on the door, but as soon as we opened it, the room smelled of stale cigarette smoke. I opened the sliding back door to air it out as best I could. Then I saw the housekeeper going from room to room to clean with a cigarette hanging from her mouth, so they are aware of the issue. After we got home, I tried emailing and contacting the owners three times. I hoped they'd at least remove the non-smoking claim from the website so someone else wouldn't book the room expecting that. No one ever got back to me. It was a long holiday weekend, and every other hotel was full, so I couldn't switch.
