Being able to walk between downtown Seward and the harbor made this a great base. Restaurants, shops, tour companies, and the waterfront were all just a few minutes away. I loved wandering along the shore and seeing Resurrection Bay and the mountains. From the hotel, I saw sea otters, seals, orcas, whales, and birds, and the view never got old. I even looked at local property because of it. I also drove out to the Kenai River, about three hours away, and Anchorage, about two hours away, but the wildlife around the hotel could have made the trip on its own. I didn’t want to leave. I’d suggest asking for a second-floor room if you can. Mine looked out over the water and mountains, and waking up to that each morning was incredible. The room was simple and old-school, but it had what I needed: a bed, fridge, microwave, and a warm place to relax after a long day. The bed was comfortable, the water was hot, and I slept well. It wasn’t fancy, but that classic Alaska roadside inn feel suited me. I’d rather save on luxury extras and spend the money on wildlife tours, glacier visits, and good local food, and that tradeoff felt completely worth it. The staff made a good impression from the start. Everyone I met was friendly, helpful, and accommodating. One front desk employee gave me local recommendations and helped me work out things to do around town. Coffee was available in the office, and the place felt safe, welcoming, and easygoing. I stayed at Murphy’s Alaskan Inn during my Seward trip, and it gave me the comfortable, simple place I wanted so I could focus on being in Alaska. From the inn, I could get to the harbor for boat tours into Kenai Fjords National Park, walks by Resurrection Bay, restaurants and coffee shops, fishing charters, wildlife tours, and shuttle stops for places like Exit Glacier. I spent my days exploring glaciers, spotting wildlife, and taking in the scenery. If you’re after a clean, comfortable, well-located place to sleep and freshen up, and you’re happy with a budget-friendly stay, I think it’s a fantastic choice.

The rooms are older, with fewer electrical outlets than you might want, and a few small repairs were needed. Still, the room was fine for the price and worked well for what we needed. The staff were very accommodating about our schedule. I’d stay again anytime. Thanks again.

We just wrapped up two nights here, and it was a great bargain. The room looked freshly painted and was clean and comfortable. It’s definitely not upscale, but the experience was great. I strongly recommend a second-floor room for the completely unobstructed bay view.

We were there over the crowded Fourth of July weekend, when the hotel sits right between downtown and the harbor. Our original king room reservation was cancelled at the last minute by the third party, though it wasn’t the hotel’s fault. The desk staff member was really kind and found us the one room left after a cancellation. It was a small queen room, not as clean as we’d have liked, and it wasn’t cheap. At least we had somewhere to stay. I’d come back, but I’d make sure to get the better room I’d requested. The location and the service earn four stars from me.

A decent option if you mainly want to save money and have a bed for the night. The room was dingy and needed some minor repairs, and we had a few spiders for roommates. The location was great, and we never felt unsafe. Staff were very friendly, and having coffee and tea in the office gave us a quick boost in the morning.
