Suburban Studios Raleigh - Crabtree Valley

The staff are the reason I keep returning to Suburban Studios in Crabtree Valley, even though this isn't usually my kind of hotel. It's also in a very convenient spot for my work. Everyone I've dealt with has been professional, responsive, and clearly cares about guests. The General Manager was especially great. She patiently walked me through several rooms so I could choose one myself. You don't often get that kind of service. If you need a place in Raleigh where the team goes out of its way to help, Suburban Studios at Crabtree is a great choice. Highly recommend.

The first room they gave me was 104. The floors were sticky, there were crumbs in the microwave, the tub lining had mold, and the room looked worn and unclean. Housekeeping said they had no mop, so I improvised with a towel, which turned black from the floor. I later bought a mop at Dollar Tree and scrubbed with hydrogen peroxide and disinfectant. The towel went black again, and peroxide foamed in the floor cracks. I have photos. I had sanitized the room myself, but at 6 a.m. a baby roach crawled across the kitchen counter, even though I hadn't cooked. I later found a large one in the bathroom. I killed both and took them to the front desk. When they told Adria, the General Manager, she acted shocked and said they “never had roaches.” I had called Adria on December 4th before booking because I'd seen several reviews mentioning roaches. She wouldn't confirm or deny them, but said the property had been “treated” and I could trust that the rooms were clean. At check-in, the front desk man called Room 104 “the best room,” which clearly wasn't true. They then showed me Room 156, where there was feces on both the toilet seat and in the bowl. After I reported that, they moved me to Room 208, which was noticeably more updated. While I was waiting for the floor to dry in 208, another large roach and a baby one came out from under the fridge and crawled onto the microwave. I reported it again, but was told nothing could be done before the general manager returned Monday. On Saturday, Adria came by, walked straight past me, and said nothing. That day I killed two more roaches and found another in the bathroom. A younger desk employee said that if I'd spoken to him instead of Adria at the start, he'd have told me the hotel had a roach problem and other guests had reported it too. I had just moved to the area, didn't get paid again until Sunday, and couldn't afford to relocate immediately. I explained that to Adria, but she offered no help or sympathy. Signs posted December 6th said treatment wouldn't happen until December 8th, yet I saw them rent Room 104 to someone before it was treated. That felt extremely unhygienic and unsafe. When I finally asked for a refund, Priceline told me Adria had denied it and hung up on them. I contacted Priceline earlier too, but couldn't move right away because of money. Between the infestation, dirty rooms, staff dishonesty, and Adria's rude, unprofessional behavior, this was the worst hotel stay I've ever had. No guest should have to deal with this at a place that claims to be “treated” and “clean.” I plan to share my experience everywhere.

The room was freezing because the wall outlet was burned out, so the heat wouldn't work. It was 22° that night. The manager on duty wouldn't answer the phone and was nowhere to be found when I went to the desk, leaving the problem unresolved. The fridge kept humming loudly enough to make relaxing or sleeping hard. There was no soap or even a trash can. The room itself looked neglected: the lamp beside the bed hung crooked from the wall, the bedside table was chipped and marked up, and the bed base was stained and dirty. After a long day of travel, dealing with the cold, grime, noise, and lack of service was unacceptable. This was the worst hotel stay I've had. The positive comments seemed like they might have been written by staff or AI. There are many other options in Raleigh, so spend your money elsewhere.

The price was good for the area, and the room worked for what I needed. It was a decent size, and service was quick and efficient. Cleanliness was a letdown, though: stains on the towels, unswept floors, crumbs on the chairs, and counters that hadn't been wiped properly. The vending machines were offline, and tap water was the only drinking water available, which sucks. You get what you pay for.
