My Place Hotel - Rapid City, SD

The person who checked us in was really nice. We stayed overnight with our pets, and the room was great, with comfortable beds and a handy little kitchen. It had a stove, sink with garbage disposal, and a fridge with an ice maker in the freezer, so we didn't need to leave the room for ice.

We couldn't use the toilet at all by the end of our stay. It wouldn't fill, and to get it to flush we had to remove the tank lid, hold the valve down, and wait for it to fill. It kept running, so we had to shut off the water. The ice maker was broken too. There were no rooms available to move us to, which I understand on a busy night with the stock show going on. We reported the problems to the woman on shift and were told we'd get only $15 comped. The manager, Stefanie, later said she'd told her to offer either $25 back or let us cancel for a full refund. She then agreed to refund just $45 of our room fee, which was over $100. If we'd known a full refund was possible, we would've canceled and gone elsewhere so we'd at least have a working toilet. The poor communication and unwillingness to refund the room were very disappointing. I'd be cautious about staying here.

This was my first time at a My Place, and I was impressed. The rooms were spacious and well maintained, and everything looked new. It's a great place to sleep well or get work done while traveling. I usually choose more familiar hotel brands, but after this stay, My Place will be my main choice for future trips. Check-in could be smoother, though. The person at reception wasn't very quick.

My previous stay here was great, so maybe we just got unlucky this time. The room was clean and the staff were friendly, but several issues made the stay less pleasant. It really seems like a 50/50 chance depending on which room you get. I'd avoid the first floor and inspect your room before settling in.
