Super 8 Rapid City Lacrosse St

The housekeeping staff were especially friendly and helpful, and the rooms are very clean. Breakfast was good enough and had plenty of staff, and I believe all the rooms have a safe with a key. I came here on a whim and ended up staying 10 days, which I was very happy with. One desk clerk was frustrated and rolled her eyes at me, but that was a one-off; I know from my own work that this industry can be taxing. This was my second great stay at this particular Super 8, and I'll be back.

The parking lot was full of potholes, with three men sitting in three cars under $200 and hanging around while we checked in. The single outdoor security camera covered very little of the cars. Inside, the stair and hall carpets were filthy, maintenance problems were everywhere, and there was no elevator. Exposed fluorescent coil lights barely lit the dark hallways, and the walls were dim and damaged, with what looked like white Killz Primer rolled over them. The lock didn't work the first time, and the bathroom sink was broken. We're not picky and have stayed in hostels and dive motels around the world, but this place shocked us. We should have read the reviews first. We left for the Choice hotel up the street, which cost the same and was a world away from this dump. Scratch Windham and Motel 8 off my list.

The room price was good, and at least there were no bed bugs. The Wi-Fi was down the whole time, which seems to be an ongoing problem from other reviews. Some rooms apparently come with a fridge and microwave, but I didn't know I could ask for one. The well-stocked gas station next door also sells liquor, which helped make the stay bearable.

For the price, they did a good job. The room was as clean as any other Super 8, the air conditioning worked well, and the continental breakfast was pretty darn good. We had a good stay.
