Town House Motel & Pool near Mt. Rushmore

We couldn't stay with our small kids and had to find another hotel at the last minute. We asked for our money back, but management refused. We'd booked this motel because it advertised a free airport shuttle, but after an ownership change there was no free shuttle, and nobody had told us. The rooms were dirty, things were broken, and the place felt unsafe and very run-down. The drained, dry pool and the condition of the property were nothing like its Expedia description. The desk clerk said no one would be working nights after 2:30 p.m.

The staff were very friendly, and the rooms were clean, but ours had an odd smell and no hot water in the morning. We wanted to shower before checking out, but nobody was in the lobby to speak with. We also missed breakfast because of that.

The pool was empty and dry, and the place looked run-down, far from what Expedia had described. The desk clerk said nobody would be working nights after 2:30 p.m. I've tried calling for a refund and got no answer. I tried to stay here on 9/31/24, but the rooms were dirty, broken, and seemed unsafe. The first room had no bedding and no working electricity. The second had neither air conditioning nor electricity.

For such an old, retro motel, it was easily the cleanest of the old places we stayed. I called to reserve just half an hour before arriving, and the young woman at the desk opened our room, switched on the A/C, and wiped down the surfaces. The bathroom tile was pink. We only stayed one night, but I wished the other motels on our vacation had been this good. Breakfast or coffee would have made it even better.
