Rodeway Inn Red Wing

The front desk clerk was incredibly friendly and accommodating with our requests. For the price, this is a safe, clean, affordable place to sleep and one of the better options nearby. The outside of the building looks dated, but inside it’s fairly modern and average. If you’re used to being pampered at a Hilton or Hyatt, it probably won’t meet your standards.

Quiet and back to basics, which I enjoyed. The room was clean and nice, the bed comfortable, and it was a non-smoking room. Staff were polite. Thank you.

The sheets were fresh and clean, the pillows were fine, and the staff were professional and very nice. But the smell and worn-out feel made us not want to stay in the room any longer than necessary. The carpet looked decades old and smelled that way. The outside had a fresh coat of paint, so I thought they might be keeping things up, but inside the air was musty and humid. Our room smelled too. The AC was hard to reach, and when I turned it on, it blew out warm air that smelled like wet gym socks. It eventually helped a bit. The bathroom had a funky smell I couldn’t identify, and I didn’t want to spend time in there. For what we paid, I expected it to be more updated, at least with carpet newer than the 90s, like from 2010. I wouldn’t say it should charge over $75 a night in its current shape. I expected a certain kind of place when I saw it was a Choice Hotel, but this one wasn’t up to snuff.

The worst part was being kept awake by every movement overhead. There was a lot of physical activity all night, though that wasn’t the hotel’s fault. On the plus side, the TV had many channels through an actual system, not bare cable. I was skeptical since this was my first Rodeway Inn, but the building had recently been painted and a handyman was working with the manager on some jobs, so they seem to be doing work. My room smelled fine and was fairly clean. The old sheets were clean and unstained, the AC unit was brand new, and the furniture was in decent shape. The tub was clean, though clearly hadn’t been thoroughly scrubbed in a while. Some minor updates like outlets, curtains, carpet, and a deeper scrub would help. For the price it wasn’t all that bad, and I’d stay again if I had to.
