Motel 6 Redding, CA - North

The manager came to speak with us in person about our concerns, which is a level of customer service I've never had, not even in five-star hotels. The room had a few minor issues but was pretty clean, and the property felt safe and well cared for. We stayed here about a month ago, and the staff were fantastic. We'll definitely stay again.

We'd stayed here a week earlier without any trouble. This time we arrived at 1 pm for an unplanned reservation and told them we had four small dogs, chihuahuas. The employee thanked me for being upfront, said there was a two-dog limit, but agreed to put us down as having two, as on the previous stay. Everything seemed fine until we returned from visiting family in town. Then they said two dogs had to go or we had to leave. We left, obviously, and will contact corporate.

The desk clerks were great, really friendly and helpful. The room seemed clean at first, but several things were broken: the shower curtain didn't reach the floor or close properly, so water got everywhere; the bathroom sink leaked; the light above it didn't work; and the door peephole was backwards. Since we got in late, we didn't spot most of it until morning. There weren't any other rooms available to move to. Early that morning a child woke us screaming, then their parents(?) started yelling at each other. We checked out after that.

I wouldn't recommend this place if you want to get any rest. The bed felt worse than a box spring, and the hot water was dangerously scalding. I'm glad my son wasn't with me as I'd originally planned. At check-in, the second adult with me couldn't be registered because their ID wouldn't scan. The clerk tried several times, and the ID was in good condition, so maybe the lighting or the photo-taking device was the problem. Where was my guest supposed to sleep, in the car? Before entering my room, the door looked like it was already open. It wasn't, but the inside of the locks looked like they'd been busted before, which made it seem that way.
