The ID situation was the last straw. After spending a few hours at the casino, I went back to order room service and was asked for my ID. I couldn’t find it, then realized it had been sitting at the front desk the whole time. Nobody had called or emailed, even though they had my contact details. I was searching the room and stressing over it for no reason. That came after a bad check-in. I arrived around 2:45 for my reserved player's suite and was told it still needed cleaning and I’d get a call when it was ready. An hour passed with no call, so I went back. The male employee at the desk had his head down, maybe studying, and was very rude. I could barely make out what he mumbled as he handed over the keys. They failed to contact me twice when they said they would. It’s one of the worst hotel stays I’ve had, and with service that unprofessional, I won’t stay here again.

The room looking out toward the mountains was gorgeous, clean, and didn’t have that casino-room smell. I liked the slot selection too, with a nostalgic feel and some updates. It’s connected to Silver Spur and Circus Circus, so there are more places to eat a short walk away. I went back and forth between a 4 and a 5, but the food choices here are pretty limited. There wasn’t a hot tub or spa available, at least at the time I visited, and one would’ve been especially nice in winter. The woman mentioned there’s a hot tub at Silver Spur, but I didn’t want to trek over there in my bathing suit.

We’ve been to Reno many times, but we won’t be back to ED except to use the free parking. Strata was an enjoyable meal, and after complaining we were moved to a different room, but there were too many problems. Our non-smoking room smelled like an ashtray, the shower was barely warm and wouldn’t drain, the white sheets looked gray, and the curtains left part of the window uncovered so light came in all night. At the little video poker bar, the bartender said he was too busy to take our order. Getting checked in was a mess too. The line was long, the kiosks didn’t work because cell reception there was poor, and only a few elevators were running. Silver Legacy, the ED’s sister casino, is much nicer. After we moved, we found out downtown Reno has no noise ordinance. Thanks to the person in the Tahoe across the street who blasted music from huge speakers in the parking lot both nights. It made for a sleepless night and a “soothing” vibration. Never again.

I’ve been coming here for 30 years, and the elevators are still my main gripe. Only a couple seem to work, and lots of the escalators are out of service too. People can wait ages just to get back to their rooms. I had foot surgery earlier this week, so dealing with that was especially irritating. After spending New Year’s in Vegas, these little problems stand out even more. I expect better, and it doesn’t seem like a lack of money explains it.

The building’s on the older side, so keep that in mind. Our room wasn’t anything special, but it was clean and everything worked, which made the stay pretty good. Being right downtown and linked to the other casinos is a nice perk. The food options at the other hotels are better than at el derado, but it’s an easy walk over since everything connects. We enjoyed our time here.
