Motel 6 Richfield, OH

The only good thing was being close to Cuyahoga Valley, which was why I came. I left a night early because the stay was pretty terrible. It didn’t feel safe coming and going, and long-term guests were loud and smoked around the property. The room smelled like smoke and dampness, and the linens, pillows, and towels were so musty and damp I could barely sleep. When I arrived, the reception door didn’t work, so I went around back and found a room full of dirty mattresses and bed linens piled beside heaps of dust and filthy floors. The woman at reception was incredibly nice, at least. I’d normally write this on Booking, but the hotel doesn’t allow reviews there, for a reason, I think. I know the hotel is about as low-priced as it gets, but that doesn’t excuse the condition of the facilities.

After my stay, I realized I’d left a computer mouse in the room. It was worth more than the room cost. I called and emailed several times before finally reaching someone, who said they weren’t liable and the mouse hadn’t been found. The hotel policy says found items are kept for 30 to 90 days, so I’ll be filing a lawsuit. My arrival was a mess too. Nobody from Motel 6 was in the office or answering the phone after I made my reservation and showed up. I waited and tried calling, then finally found the Motel 6 staff in the Holiday Inn lobby.

The room was very cheap, so you get what you pay for. It was okay for what I expected, and the location was convenient and felt safe. Dogs stay free, which is nice, and the heater worked well. The towels were stained and disgusting, though, and there was garbage outside the room. They took a shower.

I was given a full refund, the only good part of this disgusting stay. The office was locked tight at 7pm, there was no front desk, and no Wi-Fi or coffee. I had to drive to the Holiday Inn to check in, and the hotel had no answer when I called the room’s office phone. Even Motel6 corporate customer service couldn’t reach anyone there. The ADA tub I’d reserved wasn’t available. There were half-inch gaps in the flooring around the toilet and shower, the toilet paper roller was hanging by its screws, and the entry light didn’t work, so I stumbled through a dark room to find the bedside lamp. Those are just a few of the problems. It’s hard to believe anyone in hospitality would expect guests to manage everything themselves.
